Research groups and industrial inspection teams exploring quantum sensing often face a practical hurdle before any experiment begins: selecting a nitrogen-vacancy (NV) diamond material that matches their required sensitivity, crystal orientation and budget, from a supplier base that typically offers either narrow specification ranges or high-performance products priced beyond small-batch budgets. For first-time users in particular, determining the optimal NV center concentration and orientation for a given measurement goal is rarely straightforward.

ViQium Technologies Co., Ltd., a Shanghai-headquartered company focused on quantum diamond and emerging two-dimensional phosphorus-based materials, has built its product and service model around that selection problem. The company points to three capabilities as its principal differentiators: proprietary NV center engineering, end-to-end delivery spanning material supply to measurement-system support, and a customization platform covering a range of diamond specifications and orientations.

The underlying need stems from broader industry constraints the company has identified: limited scalable fabrication and end-to-end capability among NV diamond suppliers, performance ceilings in conventional measurement methods, and reproducibility issues that can slow research progress when material quality varies between batches.

ViQium’s NV center materials rely on a quantum defect embedded in the diamond lattice. Each NV center is initialized with a green laser, manipulated using a tuned microwave field, and read out through the red fluorescence it emits—a sequence that allows magnetic field, temperature, current or stress variations to be detected with nanoscale resolution at room temperature, without the cryogenic or vacuum requirements associated with some competing quantum sensing approaches.

On this basis, ViQium has developed an in-house production line covering diamond crystal growth, ion irradiation and high-temperature annealing. The company produces medium- to high-density NV diamond (0.1–10 ppm) and ultra-high-density NV diamond (10–45 ppm), reporting optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) contrast comparable to series offered by established international suppliers, while supporting customization from a single piece at what it describes as lower pricing.

Beyond the material itself, ViQium pairs diamond engineering with ODMR system integration expertise, a combination the company positions for university groups without prior NV experimentation experience as well as companies developing NV-based measurement technologies. Its product line extends to (111)-oriented high- and ultra-high-density diamonds, shallow NV diamond, nanodiamond powder, carbon-12-enriched diamond and single NV diamond, with standard products quoted for delivery within 28 days and customized orders within 45 days. Single NV diamond products are specified with coherence times above 200 microseconds, relevant to applications such as quantum computing research and single-molecule nuclear magnetic resonance.

For research customers, these specifications translate into a narrower selection process: rather than purchasing several samples for comparison, buyers can match NV density and orientation to a stated use case such as magnetic imaging or temperature sensing using the company’s published selection guidance. For industrial customers in semiconductor inspection, power metrology or geological exploration, the relevant consideration is whether customized, batch-traceable material can be supplied at a scale and consistency suited to deployment outside a laboratory setting—an area where ViQium cites batch-level quality control as a supporting measure.

The company also lists a portable magnetometer and an NV quantum spin spectrometer as upcoming precision instruments built on the same NV-based sensing principle, intended to extend its materials business toward packaged measurement tools; these remain described as forthcoming rather than currently shipping products.
